Last Sunday evening, June 7, KOAA Channel 5 aired an expose` showing two Pueblo County Commissioners using county vehicles for personal use, including drinking and driving, and driving the vehicle to the Colorado Springs airport to fly to Las Vegas for a long weekend. In addition, the report also showed the two commissioners, Anthony Nunez and John Cordova, worked far less than 40 hours per week for a salary of over $87,000 per year and a county vehicle. The commissioners were followed by KOAA reporter James Jarman for 50 hours each during ten randomly picked weekdays. During that time Nunez spent approximately 17 hours on county business. Cordova spent 10 hours. The rest of their time was spent on personal business and, in the case of Nunez, opening the bar he owns for beer deliveries, all the while using the county’s car.

Jarman asked to see records accounting for the use of the taxpayer’s car. Nunez told him there is none, even though it is required by the IRS. Nunez said the only accounting is the estimate calculated by the finance department based on the mileage from the courthouse to his home.

When presented with the video tape both Nunez and Cordova said they are not required to work 40 hours. State statute only requires commissioners to hold two meetings per week. Nunez also said he couldn’t understand why all the criticism since the county is in good shape financially.

According to the report, Jarman is still waiting for accounting of how much the two reimbursed the county for personal use of the vehicles, and is still waiting for records he requested showing how much the commissioners including Jeff Chostner charge on county credit cards.

KOAA began following the pair after receiving a tip. The tip did not include any indication that Chostner was not working a full week or using his county assigned car for personal use. In fact, anytime Jarman was at the courthouse to follow Nunez or Cordova, Chostner was there before either of the other two and almost always still there when the other two left.

I know that this has nothing to do with this case, but someone really needs to look into the Coach that resigned from Rye High, the person who accused him of sexual harrassement has a mother with a history of doing the same to her bosses. Look into Las Vegas D.O.C and into Systembilt Unit Structures. Both of her mothers bosses were claimed against the same as the coach. Sidney Singer of Santa Fe New Mexico owened Systembilt. The mothers name is Donna Como and her husband is Jim Steele. She hides under her maiden name because of all of her alligations.
